Maximum: Mon, Aug 21, 2017 at 2:53 pm 0.88 Magnitude

Ends: Mon, Aug 21, 2017 at 4:16 pm

Duration: 2 hours, 55 minutes*

Attention All Parents:

On Monday, August 21, Florida will experience a partial solar eclipse, and the Florida Department of Health reminds all Floridians to enjoy this rare event safely by following simple precautions and using proper protection. Severe retinal damage can occur from looking directly at the sun. *

Because Florida will not experience a total solar eclipse, it will not be safe the view the eclipse without the use of special solar filters like eclipse glasses. Sunglasses are not eclipse glasses. Not all glasses that market themselves as “eclipse glasses” are safe. Approved glasses have filters that meet the ISO 12312-2 international standard for safety.  Please review the following website to receive further information. *

Regular dismissal will not be affected.

All afterschool students will be picked up as usual.

In order to minimize the direct likelihood that students will look directly at the sun and risk damaging their eyes, outdoor activities between 1:00 and 4:30pm will be moved indoors.  This excludes afterschool routes which will operate as normal.

All students will be reminded to avoid direct eye contact with the sun.  Students will NOT be permitted to view the eclipse outdoors, and they will be transported directly from afterschool vans to their afterschool classrooms.  Students will be reminded to keep their eyes focused in a downward position while walking from the vans to indoors.

Be assured that we have the utmost of concern for all of our staff and students.  Please feel free to discuss any further issues with the front office staff.

Blessings,

Mustard Seed Kidz Staff
